This isolate of Kc cells was cloned in the laboratory of J. D. O'Connor around 1980. It secretes an unusually large amount of extracellular matrix and has been used in the Fessler and Bunch laboratories as a source of extracellular matrix material for biochemical characterization. It can be grown easily in spinner flasks.

We initially recommended CCM3 for maintenance of this line. However, the longer the cells were grown in CCM3, the less healthy they became. We have now established that the cells grow much better in M3+BPYE + 5% serum (though preliminary observations indicate that raising the serum concentration to 10% is deleterious), and as of April, 2015, we are shipping only cells from new, healthy frozen stocks that were made from healthy cultures in M3+BPYE + 5% serum.
