S2 stocks free from mad cow disease
Orders for S2 are normally filled from stocks of cells grown and frozen in medium containing recent lots of fetal calf serum of United States origin. We have a small stock of S2 cells from ampoules frozen prior to 2004 (the first known appearance of mad cow disease in the U.S.), then thawed and expanded in medium containing Australian serum (free from mad cow disease), and refrozen in a serum-free freezing medium. This stock is intended for users who intend to use the cells for pharmaceutical purposes, and who are legally required to use cells that have no possibility of contamination from mad cow disease. If you are interested in using cells from this stock, please e-mail the DGRC (dgrc@cgb.indiana.edu).
